NOXIOUS WEEDS.
APPOINTMENT OF INSPECTORS. The appointment by borough councils and town boards of district inspectors under the Noxious Weeds Act is one of the provisions of the Noxious Weeds Amendment Bill introduced into the House of Representatives on Tuesday night.
Occupiers of land are now called upon to trim hedges and to keep land cleared of noxious weeds at least once a year, and the work must be done in the time specified. “Clearing” is given a new definition — l “butting' down, or grubbing, or pulling up the stem or root of any noxious weed.” Where a person who is convicted for his failure to clear land continues in default for more than a month, he commits a further offence, and is liable to a fine of not less than £5, and not over £SO.
