FORGERY, FRAUD AND THEFT.
i FARM LABOGRBR’S LAPSE. : !l: ' New Plymouth, Last Night. Described by counsel as a man rendered penniless and almost desperate through continual sickness, Harry Walter Reid, farm labourer, pleaded guilty to-day to three charges of forging and uttering a chcque for £4 at Levin, of attempt to defraud the Railway Department by making a bogus claim for £BO on account of alleged loss of checked luggage, and of stealing £3 10/-, the property of a patient at the Now Plymouth Hospital. Evidence on the first charge was heard and accused was committed to the Supreme Court, Wellington, for sentence. An order was made removing the hearing of the second ichargc to Palmerston N. On the third charge accused elected to he dealt with summarily, hut the Magistrate reserved judgment pending the hearing, of the second charge and delivery of judgment on this and the first charge.
