RUGBY FOOTBALL
The secretary of the Horowhenua Rugby Union (Mr Casey) received Avord on Tuesday afternoon that no Bebbdngton Shield match Avill be played on Saturday. Dannevirke advanced no reason for their action but it is understood that the challengers; are forwarding a Avritten explanation.
The Cup final between County and Wanderers Avill hoav have to be decided at Levin on Saturday as a curtain-raiser to which will be a game between Foxton and Weraroa Thirds.
The Management Committee of the Horowhenua Rugby District Council met at Levin on Tuesday evening, Mr J. J. O’Connor presiding. Also present were Messrs J. Rimmer, W. Hannan, W. N. Anderson, H. G. McDonald, M. Winiata, S. Austin, W. Neville, B. Brann, F. Robinson and J. Robson. • A discussion took place on a suitable name for the combined Ho-iwhenua-MamiAvatu reps. The appellation “Manawhenua” Avas stated as misleading and unsuitable.
The matter of colours also was raised, it being finally decided to pass the folloAA'ing resolution: Thatthe attention of the Combined Union be drawn -to tlie fact that this Council is not being represented by colours or name in the Combined team. GENERAL. To date Levin D.H. School are leading in the Fourth grade competition, they having 18 points, Shannon 15, Foxton 0, and Foxton D.H. School 4 points. A special general meeting of the Foxton Football Club Avill be held in the Presbyterian schoolroom on Monday next, at 7 p.m. The business is to discuss the question of alteration of boundaries so that ** Foxton shall be included in the Manawatu Union. A large attendance is requested.
