UNDUE VIOLENCE.
CONSTABLE DISMISSED FROM THE FORCE.
The Commissioner of Police (Mr. W. B. McDveney) informed a Dominion reporter on Thursday that he had ordered an inquiry into the recent charge which had been preferred against a constable in the Wellington Police Force, of having used undue violence against a civilian in the city.
On the Commissioner’s instructions, the constable was charged with a breach of the police regulations in having used unnecessary violence.
The inquiry was conducted by Inspector Rawlc. Mr. A. J Mazengarb, solicitor, by permission of the Minister of Justice, represented the constable. After an inquiry lasting three days, the inspector found the constable guilty, and recommended to the Commissioner, in accordance with the provisions of the Police Force Act, that he should be dismissed from the force.
The Commissioner forthwith ordered the constable to be dismissed from the New Zealand Police Force, and ordered that lie should not receive any pay for the period of twenty days during which lie was suspended by the Commissioner's instructions.
