HEMP MARKET
JULY GRADING RETURNS
The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow and stripper slips for the month of July have been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows.—
The detailed particulars of the hemp graded are: —
Twenty-seven bales at Picton were graded sup. fine. Fourteen bales at Auckland, 53 at Wellington, 24 at Foxton, 6 at Blenheim and one at Lyttleton were rejected. The number of bales in each grade were as follows, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis:—Fine 27 (41), good fair 242 (348), high fair 2361 (3204), low fair 1877 (1765), common 473 (174), rejected 98 (134), condemned nil (4), a total of 5078 bales as against 5670 graded the same period last year, a decrease of 592 bales.
The number of bales graded at each port were:- —Auckland 558, Wellington 1951, Foxton 1491, Wairoa 170, Picton 90, Blenheim 194, Dunedin 145, Pt. Chalmers 20, Bluff 372, Lyttleton 87. The following shows the detailed particulars of the tow: —
Two bales at Auckland and fifteen at Wellington were condemned. The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: Ist grade 96 (179), 2nd 1250 (1090), 3rd 153 (117), condemned 17 (92), a total of 1516 bales as against 1478 graded the same period last year, an increase of 38 bales. The number of bales graded at each port were Auckland 228, Wellington 565, Foxton 198, Wairoa 28, Picton 31, Blenheim 58, Pt. Chalmers 17, Bluff 165, Dunedin 38, Waikuku 188. Stripper Slips: —Eight bales a Auckland and 34 at the Bluff were passed for export. The total number graded was 42 bales as against 186 "graded the same period last year, a decrease of 144 bales. Stripper Tow: —Nil.
