Christ church, August 6.' Frederick Dempsey, on a charge of lighting a small lion-fire beneath a horse in an endeavour to persuade the animal to extricate a cart from a culvert, was fined £2. The Magistrate, Mr. H. 1 . La wry, said that only the fact, that the man's family were dependent on him saved him from going to gaol.
