RIVER CONTROL.

MEETING OF RANGIOTU

SETTLERS,

A meeting of settlers affected by the Manawalu-Oroua River Board’s scheme, was held at Rangiotu yesterday. Air. Simons was voted to the chair and included in those present were the chairman of the Board (Air. W. S. Carter), and the engineer (Mr. F. C. Hay). Air. Carter dealt generally with the proposals of the Board, whilst Air. Hay answered a large number of questions regarding Hood levels as affected by the proposed deviation of the course of the river. The latter also dealt fully with the Oroua, pointing out that the flood levels of hat river also would be reduced.

The feeling of the meeting was that something should be done to prevent a repetition of the disaster of the last week.
