DROWNING FATALITY.

While attempting to cross the flooded Kahuterawa stream in a horse and trap on Sunday morning, Frederick Brown, aged 25, single, of 13 Oakley St., Palmerston North was drowned. Deceased was accompanied by a companion named William Dovle, but the latter refused to make the crossing. Brown drove into the river, and was immediately washed downstream. The horse broke free after the vehicle had gone smile distance, and Brown managed to hang on its mane, but the force of the current made him lose his grip. Doyle followed along the bank for half a mile, but was unable to effect a rescue, and eventually lost sight of his friend. He then returned to Palmerston North.
