AND SHANNON. The above match was played on the racecourse on Saturday. Foxton and Levin D.H.S. (yellow and black) won the toss. Play was fairly even for a time with some good back play on both sides. Newson almost scored for yellow, but was grassed by the Foxton and Shannon (blue’s) full-back (Moffat). Shortly after yellows got possession and from a good piece of back play started by Francis the ball went out to Aldridge, to Newson, who scored from about half-way on the corner. &ot converted.
Shortly after this midfield play resulted. Holden (§ blues) intercepted a pass and scored between the posts. The kick failed. There was no further score befor halftime.
On resuming, good play was again witnessed on both sides. After a fine passing bout Aldridge scored for yellows and Adkin converted.
From then on the game was very even with yellow’s having "a slight advantage. No further score was registered and the game resulted in the combined Foxton and Levin D.H.S. team winnig by 8 points to 3.
Subsequently the teams were entertained to tea at Walls’-tea rooms. Air. Hutchins, on behalf of the local boys complimented both teams on the game. Mr. Marsh Levin) replied. BEBBTNGTON SHIELD. Johnson, Roberts, Hunt, McDonald, Bryant, Parata, Winiatn, Warren, T. AlcDonald, Jacob, Goerge, Afaihi, Movnihan, Bond, Dalzell, Gleeson, Mnrind, Matthews, Gardener. Team will be picked from above on Wednesday morning. To-morrow, at Levin, the Rangitikei and Horowhenua reps, will play for the Bebbington Shield. No local players have been selected in the Horowhenua team. It is anticipated that Horowhenua will put up a stubborn defence to retain the shield.
The All Blacks defeated the Victorian representatives at Melbourne on Saturday by 58 points to 15. Members of the New Zealand team returned to Sydney to-day. They will .meet a powerful New South Wales team at the Show Ground on Thursday.
Wlairarapa and Bush reps, met at Carterton on Saturday, and the game resulted in a draw, both teams scoring a try. The game was played in boisterous weather and was confined to the forwards.
Mr. Hutchins (selector) picked a team to meet a Palmerston North team at an early date. The list will probably be published in our next issue.
