CITIZENS’ QUEEN CONCERT

The programme submitted at the concert given in the Koval Theatre on Thursday evening under (he auspiees of the Citizens’ Queen Committee, proved to be very entertaining. file attendance, though fair, was not so good as the programme wairanted. At the opening of the proceedings, Mr. Harold Hamer brieflv introduced the Citizens’ Queen candidate, Miss N. Spring, and then (hanked the Silver Band and those who had consented to contribute to the programme. The items throughout were much appreciated, and encores in some instances being demanded for items oJ. special merit. Songs were contributed by the following: Miss P. King, Miss Molly Downes, Miss Chalk, Misses Morgan (duet), Miss M. Patterson, Miss N. Dunn, Mrs L. Bullard, Mrs Corn, Messrs Powell, Co King, Taylor, A. Smith, J. K. liornblow and 'B. Hinds; instrumental duets, Messrs. Corn and Jenson; speciality dance, Miss Peterson. By special request Miss D. Morgan sang, ‘“Old Pal.” The items of outstanding merit were undoubtedly the instrumental duets by Messrs Corn (violin) and Jenson (piano). As a violinist, Mr. Corn exhibits qualifications above any talent Pox ton has been favoured with for a long time; possessed of a splendid technique, lie also puts heart and soul into his renderings, which results in a vivacity and sparkle which captures popular approval. Mr. Jenson at the piano is equal to the occasion. Mrs Corn’s rendering of “Moonlight and Hoses,” accompanied by Messrs Corn (violin) and Jenson (piano), was another item which met with much favour.

At the (conclusion of the programme, Mr. J. K. Ilornblow, in the absence of Mr. Yeo, thanked the audience for their attendance and appreciation of the programme submitted, and paid a tribute to the energies displayed by Miss Spring.and her mother in the Queen Carnival contest.

The singing of the National Ai hem concluded the evening.
