MANAWATU COUNTY.
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The Manawatu County Council met at Sanson on Thursday, Cr. 11. IT. Hunt presiding. There were also present Crs. J. McKelvie, D. W. Reid, \\ r . E. Barber, J. Boyce, 11. J. Fagan and W. Pearce. CORRESPONDENCE. The Public Works Department wrote approving of the Council’s classification of county roads under the Motor Lorry Regulations, 1925, and amendments thereto. —Received. New Zealand Railways Department respecting a siding near Himatangfi, which will close the Main road. —Approved of. Foxton Borough Council, asking the Council if it would consider disposing of its two-horse road grader and to name a price.-—Resolved to offer the grader for £2O. J. Linklater, M.P., acknowledging Council’s resolution supporting the White New Zealand League’s policy, and intimating that he would give his personal support to the matter. ALTERATIONS TO RATE ROLL. The following alteration to the rate ro)l were approved of: —T. Putty, pt. sec-. 33, Carnarvon, to W. J. Dew; F. Easton, blk. 1 of blk. 10, Mt. Robinson S.D., to Paiaki, Ltd.; estate of W. -H. Bowman, deceased, lots 7,8, 189, and 190, township of Sanson, to J. W. Scandlyn; G. A. Ball-Guymer, lot 141, town of Rongotea, to A. E. Wilton; A. G. Gust, portions of Douglas special settlement, to R. D. and W. G. Gust; W. J. Smith, part section 316, township Carnarvon, to H. J. Gowler; G. H. Laing, part section 320, township Carnarvon; to T. Robertson; J. Donaldson, part sections 334 to 336, township of Carnarvon, to J. L. Targett; C. D. Barber, part section 387, township of Carnarvon and part railway reserve at Himatangi, to L. Boyden; C. 11. Tarrant, part section 348, township Carnarvon, to J. Macrae and A. G. Collins; 11. Stratford to W. T. Caithness;' A. N. Townley, part 1, section 149, township of Sandon, to H. R. Worsfold. GENERAL. It was decided to purchase a new stone crusher and have the old one repaired and to increase the price paid to the contractor for, the supply of metal in order to obtain a better class of stone. , The traffic inspector was appointed building inspector under the Council’s building by-laws to come into operation. The traffic inspector stated that very satisfactory progress had been made with regard to the matter of removing lupins growing on the roads in the County. Propertyowners had taken prompt steps to remove the nuisance.
It was decided to support a proposal that local bodies be empowered to fix motor vehicle speed limits over their roads. The matter, is to be discussed at the forth coming conference of local body delegates, with a view to adopting a uniform speed. The chairman reported that the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board did not require any more silver pine poles. The Board would take the three hundred already cut, and would like to he released from their, contract with the Council. The matter was referred to the finance committee for a report. In view of the possibility of an influenza epidemic within the next few months, the Palmerston North Hospital Board requested the Council to appoint a definite representative at Sanson or any other settlement who would act on behalf of the Board in any contingency. The matter of establishing temporary hospitals might arise, and such an appointment would be of advantage to- both the Board and the Council. Inspector Berry was appointed to represent the Council.
