PARLIAMENT.
THE FINANCIAL DEBATE,
The commencement of the Financial Debate was the principal business before the House of Representatives on Tuesday. It was opened in the evening by the Leader of the Opposition (Mr. H. E. Holland), who was replied to by the Post-master-General (Hon. W. ,Nosworthy). Speaking before crowded galleries, Mr. Nosworthy dealt trenchantly with the Labour Party’s criticism, and in the course of his remarks made an important reference to the Dominion’s future policy in regard to borrowing for, public works. The PostmasterGeneral’s opinion was that when the big undertakings now under way are completed the time willjbe opportune for a curtailment of borrowing. The House rose at 9.15 p.m., the adjournment of the debate being moved by the Leader of the Nationalist Party (Mr. G. W. Forbes.) The financial' debate was continued until late last night. There was only one Ministerial speech, that of the Minister of health (Hon. J. A. Young), who replied to the Leader of (he Nationalist Party (Mr. G. r W. Forbes). At five minutes to midnight the house went into Commitee on the first item of the Estimates, and reported progress almost. immediately. The Prime Minister intimated that private member’s and Government Bills would be dealt with to-day, and to-morrow a start would be made with the Estimates. The House rose just after midnight.
