RABBIT TRAPPING A FAILURE.
While declaring himself in favour of the Waimakariri River Trust’s rabbit control policy, Mr. G. Shipley, a member of the Waimakariri County Council, warned the trust at its meeting yesterday of the serious consequences that would result it extensive trapping were permitted oh the area under its jurisdiction, states a Press Association telegram from Christchurch. Mr. Shipley said that it was only a question of time before this country would be. overrun with rabbits, for at present some of the trust’s tenants were permitting trapping on (heir runs. In bis opinion there was only one satisfactory method of eopeing with; the rabbit'problem, and that was by poison. Mr. F. G. Horrel, speaking in support, said that he know from personal experience that what Mr. Shipley said was correct. On runs in Southland where trapping was prohibited there where few, if any, rabbits. Mr. Shipley was thanked for his warning.
