SCHOOL FOOTBALL.
AUSTIN BANNER COMPETITION. On Saturday the First Fifteen of the loeal Public School journeyed to Otaki to try conclusions with last year’s winners of the Austin Banner. On reaching there they found that the news of their record victory over Levin the previous week had reached Otaki, and that the local boys were regarded as super players. Foxton won the toss, and kicked off with the sun in their favour. In the first half they were at sixes and sevens, the greasy nature of the ground being against them. Nevertheless, when the hacks got going, C. Newsgn managed to place the ball over the line. J. Francis made a good attempt to convert, the greasy ball falling short. Half time was sounded shortly after with the scores 3 all, Otaki having scored from a forward rush in the first five minutes of the game. In the second half, Foxton began to play with more confidence, and had tlie Otaki boys on the defensive most of the spell. Their second try was a clever piece of work The ball was kicked across field and an Otaki player attempted to take it, but knocked on, .T. Francis, following up fast, snatched the ball, and eluding his opponents, clapped on speed fo score a fine fry. The same player also converted with a beautiful, kick. Foxton 8, Otaki 3. Foxton continued to have the best 'of matters, and from a forward rush, K. Alexander scored. Francis again adding the-major points. Foxton 13, Otaki 3. Time sounded shortly after with the ball in neutral territory. At the conclusion of the game both teams were entertained to morning tea by the Otaki girls. Mr. Mason, in a brief speech, thanked Olaki for their splendid hospitality, and both teams gave three cheers for.the girls. The Foxton boys will long cherish pleasant recollections of the game, but what of the journey home? Next Saturday, Foxton play Shannon at Shannon. FIXTURES JULY 10th. SENIOR: Southern United v.
