NOVEL HOCKEY MATCH.

GIRLS DEFEAT MALES BY 5 TO 4.

A novel hockey match was played on Easton Park on Saturday between teams representing the local ladies hockey club and a nondescript male team attired in female dresses. The girls won by five points to four. Two of the male players did not appear in the regulation costumes and would have disqualified their team had they won (he match. Prior to the game both teams marched in procession through Alain St. to the convincing ground to the strains of weird music emitted from instruments manipulated bv the bold “hussies.” The antics, gaudy make-ups, bold display of lingerie and head gear of the “males” caused shrieks of laughter and rude comments from onlookers. The referees were one male and one female —the latter charmingly attired in white “ducks” and natty “pull-over.”

A large crowd turned out to witness the contest and as a result tho sports queen received a welcome addition to the fund.

The game was fast and furious, and tried the staying powers of the males, who had not indulged in such strenuous exercise for many years, and swooped down on the pirls according to the Rugby code and hit the hall with a ferocity that made the girls shriek and jump clear. “Daisy Dumpling” and “Dollar Princess” played with great chivalry, the former compelled to preserve his equilibrium by using only one hand to manipulate the stick. The game was thoroughly enjoyed by spectators and players alike, and a return match is asked for. Airs Barron and Mr S. Powell officiated as referees. The teams were as follows: — Males.—A. Stevenson “Manaquin,” G. Alexander “Wall-flower,” H. Hutchins “Daisy Dumping,” M. Perreau “Scarlet Pimpernel,” H. Ilornblow “The Troubadour,” Hi Reid “Dollar Princess,” D. Barron “Pavlova.” “Dunno-how” and “Rakau” wore disqualified. Ladies’ team.— Ml Patterson, R. Barber, Iv. Alar, tin, B. Gower, M. Vertongen, C. Walsh, N. Spring, N. Woods, M|. Stevenson, E. ITenskie and B. Peryman.

Goals were scored for the winners by all the forwards and it is still a matter for argument as to who scored for the men.
