MANAWATU RABBIT BOARD.
INSPECTOR’S REPORT
The Inspector submitted the following report to the monthly meeting of the Manawatu Rabbit Board, held on Thursday:—
During the past month I have been engaged in following up with personal inspection, the poisoning circular sent out to land owners on the 14th of last month. Weather conditions for poisoning have been ideal since the date of commencement, with the exception of four days only, with the result that good work has been done. I am glad to be able to state that the great majority of farmers have carried out the Board’s instructions in this general poisoning in a much more expeditious manner than on (lie occasion of the last general poisoning, with the result that full advantage has been taken of the fine weather. A small percentage of landowners have so far not poisoned, or made arrangement for so doing, all of whom have been communicated with, and if the work is not immediately carried out a prosecution will follow. In every part of the district the tallies from the different poisonings taking place are much below those of last year, due solely to the work done in between the two winter poisonings, and at present the district as a whole is in very fair order. Now that the pest has been so considerably reduced in numbers there should be no trouble in totally eradicating (he rabbits on a great majority of the land in the. Board area. During the coming month T will be engaged in general inspection work, more especially of those properties on wliieh poisoning has not yet been completed. —Adopted.
