THE TOWN HALL.

In our previous articles we have dealt with various matters in connection with the Town Hall, and in this one we merely purpose elaborating reasons why the unanimous support of the ratepayers should he given to the loan proposal at tomorrow's poll. The establishment of a central building for communal purposes dales from.antiquity. In the Dominion we see the native pahs each with its meeting house. Without a Town Hull there always seems some!ling- lacking, and this is more exemplified after having bad one for so many years. The spontaneous enthusiasm which prompted citizens in 19.11 to contribute voluntarily the sum of £250 Ini', aids building the old Town Hall has not, we feel sure, abated, although in this case it is not necessary to solicit personal contributions.

Apart from its use as a picture theatre, the Town Hall served an extremely useful purpose, and contiihuted its full quota towards the social recreation of the townspeople.. Foxton without a Town Hall is like a ship without a rudder, drifting aimlessly along. The inhabitants of a progressive town are treated with respect by strangers and visitors. It is the duty of every citizen to cultivate a civic [aide. As a good housewife builds up her home, piece by piece, so must we, who guide the destinies of the future generations, 'build up the town to be worthy both of us and them.

The bogey of increasing rates in connection with the new ball lias been well and truly laid to rest. W'e feel sure that every ratepayer will exercise his franchise at tomorrow’s poll, and that the proposal will he carried by a ten to one majority.
