Miranui now exerted themselves and invaded Foxton's territory calling on Hotorini to save which lie did” with a good line kick. ' Huff started the yellow backs off, but Perreau fumbled. Foxton then made a great effort and forced green back, Stevenson getting within an ace of crossing. From a serum near the line, Perreau was nearly over. Miranui gradually worked play back to midfield again, however, but were umfble to keep play away from their 25 for long. Foxton kept up the attack and N. Huff securing attempted to pot a goal but failed. Miranui, with a combined effort, then took play into Foxton’s 25, but Hotorini was safe and found the line well downfield. From the resulting throwout Stevenson secured, kicked high and folowing up smartly,, collared the green player who secured and promptly grassing him went on and brought down the man whom the ball was passed to and forced the ball out of play, delighting the spectators with his brilliant performance. Huff took a mark immediately after the throw-out and put the ball out in the green 25. Play then went across the field and Pack again where Foxton secured a penalty, which J. Hull: neatly kicked. Foxton (s—Miranui nil. From a throw-out green’s half made a great dash and took the ball to the Foxton line where Holorini marked and saved the situation with a fine line kick. Huff and Hartley each made hold bids for the green line, but were unsuccessful. Miranui then took play upfield again, but Stevenson and Huff were responsible for putting the ball out of play at the 25 litre. Greens now looked dangerous and made a great effort to cross.from a serum in front of Foxton’s goal posts. They were gradually forced back, however, to the 25 line. Pullen sent play back to the Miranui 25 where Stevenson snapped the ball up and passed out to Hartley who crossed. J. Huff just missed with a “poster,” the half time score being Foxton 9, Miranui nil. Foxton opened the second spell with offensive tactics and Anderson took the hall-right up to the posts where he found he was unsupported and the attempt failed. The Foxton-Miranui match was certainly a surprise packet as it had been freely stated that Miranui could give the locals 10 points in. On Saturday’s play there is not a junior outfit in the union that could give the local boys anything in. “Andy” knows that there are a few faults which are yet to he corrected, hut on Saturday’s play the team showed markeld improvement on previous-games.
There was not a slacker among the locals on Saturday. Andrews played his best game of the season. His work on the line and in the forward rushes was reminiscent of “off-side Mac.” Young Stevenson loaned from “Mick” Cook s thirds, fairly excelled himself and was prominent throughout. Perreau at half was particularly nippy and made few mistakes. The Huff brothers and Hotorini were thorns in the side of Miranui, although the latter in the second half was handicapped with a leg injury.-
The Juniors next try-out is against Shannon, a tough proposition, but on Saturday’s form they should give a good account of themselves. lIOROW’iIIENUA REPS.
