IiAXGI SUTHERLAND PLEADS NOT GUILTY AND IS COMMITTED F(>1? . TRIAL. At the Palmerston police court yesterday Ernest Taniwha Sutherland, a half-caste Maori, was charged separately with attempted murder common assault, and arson. The details of this sensational affair which occurred at Awahuri in February last have been outlined previously. .Evidence was given by Rangi Kuthrland wife of accused as to the injuries inflicted on her. While in hospital accused had written asking to be forgiven. Richard* Drummond, father of the previous witness, outlined tho sensational happenings on the night of the tragedy, as did his wife and a neighbour. Senior-Detective Quirke, gave evidence as to arresting accused. Sutherland, wife of accused, as to the charges and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
