PHENOMENAL SPEEDS.
New world’s records were established by Mr. Parry Thomas, driving a car of his own design on the Pendine Sands, Er gland, two weeks ago. Mr. Thomas averaged 170.(5 rn.p.h over a two-way course against and with the wind. With the wind behind the ear, the greatest speed attained 172 m.p h. This breaks the record of 154 rn.p.h., established a few weeks previously by Major H. 0. D. Segrave with a Sunbeam.
The previous mile record was 150.7 rn.p.h. to the credit of Mr. Malcolm Campbell. This was created last year by a 12-cylinder Sunbeam car on Pendine Sands. Mr. Thomas has also eclipsed several kilometre records.
Both Mr. Thomas and Mr. Campbell have been conspicuous in English racing for many years.
