FOXTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

COMMITTEE MEETING

A committee meeting of the Foxton Horticultural Society was held in Ross’s Rooms last night. Present: Messrs D. Christie (president) J. Ross, Jno. Ross, R. Hoinblow, W. Nye, S. H. Peryman, E. J. Murphy W. H. "W alton and Mesdames Murphy, McMurray, F. Proctor, Heasman, Miss Ross and the secretary (Mrs Moore). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames P. Easton and Barr and Messrs Pool, Symons, and Tycr. The Preident complimented those present on the large attendance, which, he said, augured well for the future of the Society. NEW PROPERTIES. The question of providing new properties for the Society owing to the loss of all the Society’s belongings in the Town Hall fire came up for discussion. Rev. Wfalton advocated the procuring of collapsible tables similar to those used by the \\ ellington Horticultural Society. The President estimated the cost at 35/- each. Rev. Walton said' that any new property procured by the Society should be branded. Djiring the last few years the Society’s timber stored under the stage in the old Town Hall had become beautifully less. “If we had a look round Foxton,” lie said, “we would find several of the Horticulture! Society’s trestles knocking around.” It was decided to hold over the question of procuring tables, etc. until the new hall was erected. SHOW DATE. It was decided that the next show be held on Thursday, September 9th, in the Masonic Hall. A committee consisting of Messrs Christie, Nye and Jno. Ross was set up to arrange for the procuring of any timber necessary for the next show.

The question of procuring bottles for exhibits was also raised. Rev. Walton suggested purchasing a cheap line of glazed vases. —Left in the hands of the secretary and Rev. Walton.

It was suggested that wallpaper he used for the tables, but this was held over until permanent tallies were obtained.

The following members were elected a finance committee: Mesdames J. Barr, E. Proctor and Messrs Murphy and Christie. The following judges were appointed: —Bulbs and cut blooms, Mr. A. Gibson (Marlon); cookery, Mr. A. E. Whitehead (Palmerston North); decorative, Mrs W. M. Clark (Levin). It was decided to hold the next committee meeting in July when the schedule will lie revised and probably reduced somewhat. DONATIONS.
