OTAKI MEETING. Bright sunshine all day brought a record holiday crowd , to the Otaki course on Thursday, the lawns being thronged. The course though on the soft side, had a beautiful .sole of grass and was little affected by the large fields. Speculation reached a new height, the tote handling £25,005, an increase of £4588 over the corresponding day last year. But for the succession of big dividends, the amount would have been a great deal larger. Details are as follows : Tararua Hack Hurdles. —Slump 1, Taitaita 2, Sir Wai 3. Won by three lengths. Time 3 min. Ivuku Maiden Race. —Acred 1, Mountain Star 2, Takaroa 3. Won by a good half length. No time announced. Waitohu Hack Handicap. —Coot 1, Gardant 2, Merle 3. Won by a head each way. Time, 1.37 3-5. Eaukawa Cup Handicap. —Shining Airmour 1, Megan 2, Pantagruel 3. Won bv a length. Time 2.12. Otaki Hack Handicap.—Sir Moment 1, .Subjection 2, Ardfinnan 3. Won by one and a-half lengths each way. Time, 1.32 3-5. Rahui Handicap.—Lady Fingers 1, Orchid 2, Huikai 3. Won by a length. Time, 1.17 2-5. Te Horo Hack Handicap.—Our Jack: W. 11. Bowden’s b.g.
