DORCAS SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the above was held in the Plunket office yesterday afternoon. Those present were: —Revs. Peryman and Walton, Captain Stone, Mesdames E. Robinson C. Pearson, F. McDonald, D. Christie, W. Walton, R. Moore and McMurray. The Rev. W. IT. Walton was voted to the chair. The annual report and balance-sheet was read and adopted. The chairman, in commenting on the report and balance-sheet, said the Society’s position was very satisfactory. This was no doubt flue to the method adopted by this society, which was really an amalgamation of the churches and obviated overlapping. The expenses for the year showed an increase of about £3 as compared with last year. There had not been a great many calls for assistance. The mills are closing down for a short time this year and - this usually means increasing calls on the Society.

The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —President, Mrs F. Robinson; Hon. Sec. Mrs R. McMurray; Committee: Rev. and Airs AY. IT. Walton, Rev. and Airs F. McDonald, Rev. and Airs S. Peryman, Captain and Mrs Stone, Rev. Father McDermid, Mesdames R. Moore, A. Ross, J. *M. Barr, D. Christie, C. Pearson, Misses J. Ross and A. AI. T. Williams. A donation of £5 was received from Airs E. Healey. This amount to be used for the replenishing and additions to the Society’s Maternity lending bag, A vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs Healey.

The following were appointed to take the matter in hand: Mesdames Walton, Pearson and Christie. The sec. was asked to write Mrs i. Collins, expressing the society’s appreciation of her ever willing Help in dealing with necessitous cases.

Airs. F. Robinson and Rev. Walion expressed their thanks to the committee and lion. sec. for their work during the past year. A vote of thanks lo the chair concluded the meeting. The society makes an ap-

peal for parcels of left off clothing, hoots, etc. These may be left at Air. G. F. Smith’s shop, Alain St.
