WIANDERERS (9) V. FOXTON (3). The above senior game was played on the racecourse on Saturday in the presence of a record attendance. The weather arid ground were all that could be desired. The game was the most strenuous and exciting witnessed so far this sea.son, and was played in a fine spirit wVnderers were much'Tmore, weighty on the whole and this was particularly noticeable in their back division. Foxton. however, more than held their own in the forwards. Blacks displayed clever tactics on the line out from whence Jacob did most of his break-away work. Foxton included two transferees from the Weraroa seniors, Cole and Kjilsby. Huff was also included from the junior division. Taylor had to retire during the first spell and his place was taken by Hakaraia and fluff removed to full back. Jacob, for Wanderers, was outstanding, but was particularly well marked in the latter stages of the game. There were some line dashes of open play by both back divisions. The blacks f attacked from the start and Foxton was forced. Kiriona, Moses and McDonald were prominent in transferring play to black’s territory—where a force was accepted. Jacob by a-fine lino kick again transferred play to yellow’s 25 and a free kick relieved the pressure. Some wild passing by blacks nullified a dangerous onslaught and the yellow forwards rushed play to centre where Fuller and Kiriona carried on. Blacks were penalised for off side. Taylor took a long shot at goal which was returned by Winiata. Tatana was prominent, but Taylor was equal to the onslaught. O’Reilly stopped a dangerous black movement in yellows 25. From a scrum, Jacob cut in and scored. Tatana missed an easy kick —AYandcrers 3, f oxton 0. Foxton attacked and Proctor with a nippy run was pushed out at the corner! Taylor saved another black'onslaught and O’Reilly, Fuller and Moses transferred play to centre. Jacob broke away but was beautifully grassed by Fuller, and Taylor in stopping a rush met with an injury to his ankle and had to retire and was replaced by Hakaraia. A free kick for a yellow infringement enabled Jacob to increase black’s score—Wanderers G, Foxton 0. Huff and Hirini saved black movements by line kicks, and Proctor got in a short run, and yellows attacked, but I lie black defence was safe. At half time play was in the centre. On resuming play, blacks were awarded a free kick, but yellows made a determined attack in which Moses, Fuller, Hakaraiu were prominent, and Kiriona got over. Hirini took the kick, but was unable to add the major points. Wanderers G, Foxton 3. Yellows were now playing with great dash. McDonald, Moses, Procter, O’Reilly, Fuller and Krivishanko being prominent, but a free kick brought relief to the blacks. McDonald made a great break away and yellows looked dangerous. Hirini transferred to Moses who worked his way through the forward black division and the black line was invaded, and a score looked imminent. From a five yards scrum blacks obtained the ball and cleared with a line kick. Fuller marked, but a shot at goal fell short. The black backs broke away and carried play to yellow territory where Hirini saved with a line lack. A fine passing bout by the black backs carried play again to yellow’s territory where Proctor by a mark saved the onslaught. Jacob was badly missed by Krivishanko and the black backs got moving. Fluff saved with a well judged line kick and shortly after Moses, elusive as an eel, worked his way through, but had no backing. Give and take play ensued until the blacks three-quarter line got into their stride and Jacob finished up by crossing the line. The kick was a failure, Wanderers t), Foxton 3. Play was in the centre when time was called. TFIIRDS 18, SHANNON 3. The local Thirds met and defeated Shannon Thirds on the local racecourse on Saturday. The visitors were a good deal heavier than the local boys, but the home team had it all over the visitors in the combination pjay in the backs. Newth and Wright crossed the line for Foxton shortly after play commenced, and Stevenson converted both tries. It was not long before Ross added another try to the score, the attempt at goal proving futile. Half-time scores stood at 13—nil. In the second spell Shannon livened up and kept Foxton on the defensive most of the time. They succeeded in crossing from a scrummage. The kick at goal failed. Foxton 13, Shannon 3. Simpson then crossed for Foxton and Stevenson converted. Foxton 18, Shannon 3. No further scores were added. Mr. W. Neville refereed.
