MANAWATU RABBIT BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual-monthly meeting of lho Manawatn Rabbit Board was held in the Board’s office on Thursday, presided over by the chairman (Afr. B. G. Gower). Also present were Trustees Gloyn, AlcKelvie, Flemming, Barber, Boswell, Rnikes, and the scerelary (Afr. R. Rangiheuea). The Board’s inspector (Air. I). R. Barron) was also in attendance. INSPECTOR’S REPORT.
The inspector reported as follows :
Owing to the had weather experienced during the past month, the work of rabbit destruction lias been greatly retarded and until the weather has again become settled, satisfactory work cannot he done except in the case where fumigation with bi-sulphide is being carried out.
Most of the country inspected by me during the month was in .failcondition, and that condition will he greatly improved during the coming poisoning, provided seasonable weather is experienced.
The poisoning of the Alain Highway from Himatangi to Bainesse was completed at the beginning of (lie month. Unfortunately, heavy lain was experienced on each occasion the poison was laid, and results were consequently not so satisfactory as they otherwise would have been.
During the month I sent out the statutory notices required under the Act, and also a circular re a general poisoning to begin on the Ist June. Trapping was duly advertised to stop between the 15th May and 30th June. It will be necessary for farmers to make every effort to secure a successful poisoning at this season of the year, and great care should lie taken in laying the poison, and ample feeding provided, as in many parts of the district rabbits are becoming very “shy” of anything in the way of poisoning or trapping.
During Ihe coining month I will be engaged in general inspection work, following up the notices sent out during the month. The Inspector’s report was adopted and it was decided that a warning notice be sent to owners of property that if work of poisoning is not completed in a reasonable time action will be taken against them.
Trustees Barber and Gower were authorised to operate on the Post Office savings book account. It was resolved that a rebate of 21 per cent, be allowed on all rates paid within Ihe time stipulated by iho Act.
Trustee Rnikos reported on (ho Rabbit Boards’ conference held in Feilding and gave the Board an outline of Ihe business transacted. Accounts amounting to £B7 (is 8d were passed for payment.
