YEAR’S POWER EXTENSION.

REVIEW OP THE .WORK. ■ Amongst the reports presented to the annual meeting of the Horowhenua Power Board last week was an interesting summary of the year’s work by the Electrical Engineer, Mr. J. A. Smith, A.M.1.E.E. It was as follows: — “STEADY PROGRESS.”

During the year ended 31st March, 1926, steady progress has been made in the construction of the Board’s Electrical undertaking. The main high tension lines having been constructed during the previous year, the following high tension latcrial lines have been completed during the last 12 months: Tokoinaru extension, Kingston Road, Buckley Road-Ko-putaroa, Heatherlca-Whirokino, No. 6 Line (Foxton), Keri Iveri Road, Muhunoa East, West and Ivuku, Manakau North Road, Te Iloro Loop extension, Te Horo Beach, Waikanae Beach, Reikorangi Valley, Paraparaumu Beach, Paraparaumu Valley, Raumati.

OVER 2000 CONSUMERS. The load on the system has developed rapidly; 73 industrial motors aggregating 1303.5 h.p. ranging from A h.p. to 1/5 h.p. have been connected during the period; also 152 milking machine motors. The ranges connected number 104 and the indications show that they are becoming so popular and useful, that a large number more will be in service before very long. 220 waterheaters were connected up. The number of consumers connected was 755, bringing the total up to 2219. The total collected load to date is 4975.2 K.W. TOTAL LOAD —203(5 HORSE POWER.

GREAT INCREASE IN MAXIMUM DEMAND. Some idea of the extent which these added connections have made to the maximum demand from the Mangahao Power Station, can be gathered from the following figures, which give a good indication of the progress made: — Maximum demand quarter ended 31st March, 1925.—410 K.W. at 83 P.F.; actual K.V.A. 493.9. Maximum demand quarter ended 31st March, 1926—1384 K.W. at .90 P.F.; actual K.V.A. 1538. CAREFUL WORKERS. I would like to record the consideration which the chairman and members of the Board, have always shown to the Engineering staff, and men working thereunder, during tHc past year, and personally express my appreciation of the loyal and willing service rendered by the officers and men directly under me. Due to Ihe care exercised by all concerned, I am pleased to report that no serious accidents, disabling men for more than a week or two, have happened. The chairman moved that tho Engineer be thanked for his comprehensive report. Mr. Gunning seconded the motion, which was carried.
