The usual monthly meeting of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held in the Methodjst schoolroom on Thursday afternoon. Owing to inclement weather the attendance was small. Mrs Perymau occupied the chair, and in the absence of Mrs Rimmer, through sickness, Mrs John Ross acted as secretary. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Bullard, Mrs Downs and Miss Duncan. Mrs McDonald gave a report of tho plans of work for Young Peopld discussed at the Dominion Convention in Christchurch. The union is much indebted to Mrs McDonald for the very full and accurate accounts of convention. Pleasure was expressed at the starting of Girl Guides in Eoxton, and at the success that had attended their recent sale. As the W.C.T.U. stands foursquare against all forms of raffling and guessing competitions) the members were very jdeased to see that their young sisters had taken up the same attitude and eschewed all raffling. The secretary was asked to write congratulating the Girl Guides, wishing the movement every success and offering any help that the Uunion could give. >*■' 1 Ah’s King was appointed reporter, and it was decided to send reports of meetings to local paper and Wjhite Ribbon. The Editor of our local paper is always very willing to give space for reports and absent members like to read them. Decided to hold White Ribbon Day on June 17th, the arrangements to be left in the hands of Airs Rimmer, lion, sec., and Airs. Chrystall White Ribbon agent. Afternoon tea was served and a pleasant afternoon brought to a close with the Benediction.
