PLUNKET SOCIETY.

ANNUAL REPORT. The following is the report to he submitted to the annual meeting of the local branch of the Plunket Society, to he held in the Plunket room on Monday next: — “The work for the year shows an increase over previous years, as the following details of the Nurse’s visits to Foxton proves:—(previous years figures in parenthesis):— Visits by Nurse to office 50 (45); Nurse’s visits lo homes 88 (139); Adults visits to office 606 (119); Children to office 746 (418) j New cases 33 (42). Total 1440 (973), an increase of 467. Out of the 33 new cases 20 were naturally fed. On September 3rd a Mothers’ social afternoon was held, and Nurse Jones gave a most interesting address —it is to be regretted that the attendance of mothers was not greatc?\ The society is in a good position financially, there being a credit. balance of £4l 14s 8d as against £3O 8s 5d last year; out of this amount the following liabilities are due on May 11th, salary £ls, rent £9 15s, emulsion £4 8s 4d, a total of £29 3s 4d. When these amounts are paid we still have a credit of £ll 7s 4d. We arc gratified that the work shows a steady increase, and we fully realise that at an early date we must have an additional room to insure more privacy for mothers when consulting the Nurse. With this object in view your committee made application to the Borough Council, asking that provision for the Society be made in conjunction with the rest room in the new Town Hall buildings. The application was favourably received, hut the Council regretted that an extra room could not be added, hut if suitable the Society was welcome to the use of the Rest Room, and another room adjoining. This will he further considered when the building is completed. The committee express their appreciation of the work done by Nurses Jones and Hughes, and relieving Nurse Mareusson. We regret losing the services of Nurse Jones who has taken up the work in Western Australia. We wish her every success in her new sphere. We regret to record the death during the year of Mrs F. A. Mason, one of our most esteemed members of committee. Airs R. Hynes, who had been a member of our committee for nearly four years, left the district in October last; the committee tendered her a complimentary tea, prior to her departure. We have great pleasure in placing on record our appreciation of the services rendered by Mrs Hynes. The society is indebted to Miss J. Ross for the donation of-a bicycle for the Nurse’s use, also to Mr. E. Healey for adding to the Society’s funds the amount of £3 16s fid, being proceeds from his weighing machine dating from last October. We also wish to record our appreciation of Airs. J. Aitchison, lion. sec. of Palmerston North, who has helped us in every way possible. We also acknowledge, and wish to thank Mr. T. ALidgc for conveying the Nurse from and to Palmerston North iree of charge; lo Mrs Kirkland for supplying the Nurse’s lunch; to Airs J. Walls and AI. E. Perreau for providing the Nurses with morning and afternoon teas, and to the Press for space given to the society’s functions.”
