HEMP MARKET.
GRADING RETURNS FOR THE YEAR. 31st MARCH 1925, 31st MARCH, 1926.
The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow and stripper slips for the year ended March 31st, 1926, have been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows : The detailed particulars of the hemp graded are: —
Six hundred and six bales at Picton, 5 at Blenheim, 15 at Dunedin, and 15 at Romahapa were graded fine. Three hundred and ninetyfour bales at Auckland, 889 at Foxton, 1137 at Wellington, 14 at Blenheim, 3 at the Bluff, and 26 at Lyttleton were rejected. Thirtynine at Wellington, and 21 at the Bluff were condemned. The number of bales in each grade were as follows, the number of bales for the year before being given in parenthesis:—Fine 641 (404), good fair 6876 (8352) high fair 49207 (44,953), low fair 30,170 (26,539), common 4458 (3780), rejected 2463 (1812) condemned 60 (128).
.The percentages of bales in each grade were 4s follows, the percentage of bales for the year before being given in parenthesis: — Fine .68 (.47), good fair 7.32 (9.71), high fair 52.42 (52.28) low fair 32.14 (30.88), common 4.75 (4.39), rejected 2.62 (2.17), condemned .064 (.14), a total of 93,875 bales as against 85,976 bales graded the year before. The number of bales graded at each port were: —Auckland 19742, Foxton 23404, Wairoa 1914, Wellington 32085, Pieton 789, Blenheim 1401, Dunedin 2114, Bluff 10243, Pt. Chalmers 1311, Romahapa 114 and Lyttelton 758. The following shows the detailed
Three hundred and thirteen bales at Auckland, 103 at Foxton, 374 at Wellington, 41 at Blenheim, and 20 at the Bluff, were condemned. The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the previous year being given in parenthesislst grade 3765 (3776), 2nd grade 16439 (14398), 3rd grade 4087 (3434), condemned 020 1715), a total of 25211 bales as against 22323, graded last year, an increase of bales.
The percentage of bales in each grade were as follows, the percentage of bales for the year before being given in parenthesis: —Ist grade 14.9 (16.92), 2nd grade 65.2 (64.49), 3rd grade 16.21 (15.39), condemned 3.64 (3.2). The number of bales graded ai each port were: —Auckland 5766, Poston 4579, Wairoa 299, Wellington 6766, Picton 335, Blenheim 700, Dunedin 263, Bluff 5115, Pt. Chalmers 669, Waikuku 274, Lvtt let on 445.
Stripper tow:—Two hundred and three bales at W ellington were graded Ist grade. One at Auckland, 1406 at Wellington and 833 at Foxton were graded 2nd grade. Four hundred and eleven at Wellington and 40 at Foxton were graded 3rd grade. Twenty-four at Foxton were passed for export, and 61 at Wellington were condemned, making a total of 2979 bales as against 1318 graded the year before, being an increase of 1,661 bales. Stripper slips:—Fifty-five bales at Auckland and 18 at Wellington were graded Ist grade. Four hundred and sixty two bales at Auckland, 348 at Foxton, 336 at Wellington, 70 at Wairoa, 509 at the Bluff, 3 at Lyttelton, and 24 at Blenheim were graded 2nd grade. One hundred and seventy-four bales at Auckland, 278 at Foxton, 235 at Wellington, 22 at Wairoa, 651 at the Bluff, 4 at Lyttelton and 31 at Blenheim were passed for export. One hundred and fifty-five at Auckland, 34 at Wellington, and 21 at the Bluff were condemned. The total number graded was 3430 bales as against 2189 graded the year before, an increase of 1,241 1 bales.
