HOCKEY.

The Foxton Ladies’ hockey team journeyed to Palmerston North yesterday to take part in the Wednesday competitions. After an excellent game they suffered defeat at the hands of Technical School by 2 points to 1. The following represented Foxton: Misses Woods, Purcell, Wilson, Henskic, E. Patterson, Gower, Barber, Spring, Vertongen, Davey and M. Patterson. The teams were very evenly matched and there were several spectacular incidents. Up and down play predominated the first spell which did not prove of very great interest. Technical school registered their first goal before half time. In the second spell, Foxton attacked and kept play confined to their opponents’ part of the field for some time, the Technical School backs and goalie saving several awkward situations. Foxton undoubtedly had the better of the second spell,, Technical School again scored shortly after play started. Four minutes before the game ended, however, Miss Ella Patterson secured the only goal for Foxton. — Technical School 2, Foxton 1. Messrs Clarke and Blackbourn were the referees.
