GOING TO A WEDDING.
NINE THOUSAND-MILE TRIP.
ARRIVAL JUST IN TIME,
A remarkable series of lucky connections in the matter of travelling arrangements marked the journeyings of Mrs. Albrecht, senr., mother of Mr. J. A. Albrecht, of Gisborne, in travelling from South Africa to attend the wedding of her grand-daughter, which took place in Gisborne last week. After travelling 9000 miles she arrived at Gisborne just before the ceremony. On arrival at Sydney after a slow and tiring passage from South Africa, Mrs Albrecht was informed that only one steamer was leaving for New Zealand, but the vessel’s destination was Wellington, which would have precluded the possibility of an arrival at Gisborne in time for the wedding. However, that week the lady was informed that the Union Company was running a special steamer to Auckland. She stepped off the boat at Auckalnd last Tuesday morning, caught the train for Rotorua, where she arrived on Tuesday afternoon. She then took a special car to Whakatanc on Wednesday morning, and arrived at Motu that evening. A special car took Mrs Albrecht on to Gisborne on Thursday morning, and she arrived in time for the ceremony. She was able to say with truth that she had “nothing to wear to the wedding,” for all her luggage, which had been transhipped at °Auckland, only arrived by the Wainui that day, and was unloaded too late to allow her to get out her frocks for the wedding. Naturally there were great jubilations at her safe arrival, and she was the recipient of many congratulations.
