INFLUX OF CHINESE.

RETURNED SOLDIERS’ RESOLUTION. Not “cabbages and kings,” but “cabbages and Chinese,” formed the theme of a vigorous discussion at tho aiinual meeting of the Auckland branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association last week. The White New Zealand League sought thes upport of the association for its aims and objects. Mr. Paseoe said he thought the matter was one which the Returned Soldiers’ Associations should support. Regarding Chinese, newspaper correspondents had written that if Asiatics were excluded the price of vegetables would be greatly increased. He quoted the example of Liverpool, which had reduced its Chinese population of 2500 before the war to 500 to-day. Mr. Paseoe moved that a remit be forwarded to the Dominion conference of the Returned ■ Soldiers’ Association, expressing alarm at the number of Chinese entering the Dominion, and urging the Government to close the avenues of entry. In seconding the motion Mr. A. C. A. Secton expressed the view that the Minister should be impressed with the necessity of enforcing the recent restricions imposed upon the influx of Chinese. The motion was carried unanimously.
