RAID ON ALLEGED GAMING HOUSE.
OFFENDERS FINED. Wellington, April 30. As a result of a police raid on premises in Thorndon Quay, yesterday, Douglas Allan Hogg, aged 29, was charged with keeping a common gaming house. He pleaded guilty. The Chief Detective quoted bets recorded, including sums of £55, £ls and £22, also a treble of £6OO to £l. The police believed accused has been employed by a wealthy bookmaker. The defence was that Hogg drifted into the bookmaking after giving up a hairdressing business owing to poor health. He was fined £2O. George Levey, tobacconist, of Dixon Street, was similarly charged and his wife was charged with assisting him. Both pleaded guilty. Levey was fined £2O and his wife £l.
