P.W.M.U.

A meeting of the Foxton branch of the P.W.IM.U was held in the Presbyterian Church last week. Visitors wei’e present from Palmerston North and Mesdames Wallace, Collins and Sister Olive, members of the Wanganui P.A. Executive, were also in attendance. After the opening service, Sister Olive spoke interestingly on the commencement of the Women’s Missionary Movement in New Zealand and of its wonderful progress since. Mrs Wiallace made a special appeal on behalf of the proposed “Rest Homes” for our returned missionaries on furlough. It was decided at last November Conference that there should be two homes erected, one in Auckland, and one in Dunedin. This is not a luxury which is to be provided said the speaker, but a real requisite. The sum required is £3OOO, and so all branches will have to become “Busy Bees” and gather in all the “honey.” There is not a doubt that all that is needed will be forthcoming, as they had had experience of what had been accomplished in the past through earnest prayer, and united human effort. Mrs Collins read letters from several missionaries which were, very interesting. It was decided that money boxes be obtained by all members, and friends for the special “Rest Home” fund. A hearty vote of thanks to the speakers was passed, and the meeting was closed with the Benediction after which afternoon tea was dispersed.
