A total of £20,997,007 was provided for the year 1925-26 for the salaries, wages and overtime payments of civil employees in the non-revenue departments of the Civil Service, states a return issued from the British Treasury. In addition to this, £1,110,109 was provided for travelling and incidental expenses, while the gross provision for all the services was £247,082, 766. The liarrogate-to-King’s Cross Pullman train achieved a record run recently between Doncaster and Retford. This express, which runs non-stop from Leeds, was delayed by signals for 12 minutes, but from Retford the journey of 139 miles was completed in 135 minutes, the train arriving to time. To accomplish this excellent performance the train must have travelled part of this journey at over 80 miles an hour. The Anglo-Swedish Society for promoting friendly feeling between the two countries, has twelve branches throughout Sweden, the membership in Gothenburg alone being over 1000, with 1200 juveniles in a special school section. The founder of the society, the Rev. C. H. R. Baldwin, recently received the insignia of the Vasa Order at the hands of the Crown Prince of Sweden in recognition of his work.
