HERRINGTON GOLF CLUB.

OFFICIAL OPENING. Glorious weather prevailed for the official opening"of the Herrington Golf Club’s links on Saturday. Visitors were present from all parts of the district including Palmerston North, Levin and Shannon. As the Shannon visitors were not able to arrive at the appointed hour, owing to encountering difficulties with the punt at the Shannon ferry, a round of Canadian foursomes was indulged in prior to the opening, ten foursomes, leaving the pavilion. After the competition of the round members of the Club and visitors assembled at the pavilion where a tasty afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies, and the links were then officially declared open for play by the President (Mr. A. The green, he said, was not in a very good condition at present, but it would improve as the season advanced. He was glad to see such a layge number of visitors present and he hoped that they would be frequent callers on the Herrington Club during the coming season. He then called for cheers for the visitors, which were heartily responded to. Mr. Blackwood, vice-president of the Shannon Golf Club, replied on behalf of the visitors, and thanked the local club for the hospitality they had all been accorded.
