NYE FERNS MATCH. Although the local green was officially closed for play on Saturday of Easter week, the beautiful weather yesterday enticed a number of local bowlers to prepare a rink and contest another match for the Nye Ferns. The challenging four was skipped by Thomson, and a most interesting game was witnessed, the decision being in doubt until the end of the game. Thomson’s rink looked like sure winners by the time the 13th head had been played, the scores being 14 —6 in their favour. From this on, however, Winstanley’s rink made progress, and on the 18th head managed to even the scores- —17 all. The decision practically came on the 20th head, when Winstanley measured in four, giving him a lead of three, with one head to go. The final end was hard-fought; but did not yield the required score for the challengers, Thomson’s attempt to kill it resulting in a drive to the ditch.
Holders: Barr, Mattar, Roore Winstanley (s) 21. Challengers Downes, Healey, Christie, Thomson (s) 20.
