BOROUGH FINANCE.

TREASURER’S STATEMENT. At last night’s Borough Council meeting the Borough Treasurer reported as follows: — During the month £5929 3s Id has been received and banked as follows: —Cemetery account £2, Drainage Connection Loan £26 11s Od, District Fund £4939 16s lid, Water and Drainage Loan £B6O 15s 2d. The ledger balances at the 31st March 1926, were as follows: — Gasworks £lll 18s Od, General £2OB 13s 2d, Hospital and Charitable Aid £6 2s Od, Interest Accounts £133 17s lOd, Waterworks £674 7s Id, all at debit, a total of £1134 18s Id. The accounts at credit totalled £4605 3s 8d and were made up as follows: —Cemetery £lO5 I.ls sd, Drainage Construction Loan £333 7s 9d, District Fund £3031 6s sd. SUMMARY.

The amount of gas manufactured during the month of February was 347,300 ft., which, with the amount in the holder on February Ist,, 15,600 ft., made a total of 362,900 ft. During the month 383,000ft.* was used by consumer, 20,000 ft. at the works and there was 10,400 ft. in the holder on March Ist, making a total of 43,400 ft. of gas. During the month 33 tons of coal was carbonised, yielding 10,524 cubic feet of gas to the ton and producing 6 tons of coke.

Receipts for the month totalled £274 7s 5d and were made up as follows:—Gas sales (lighting) £47 0s 4d, heat and power £129 7s Bd, coke sales £3l 17s 3d, tar sales £2O 4s, fittings £lB 16s, weighing £3 3s Gd, miscellaneous £23 18s Bd. The expenditure for the month totalled £245 13s 9d, and was made up as follows: —Coal £94 7s Od, wages and salaries £46 7s Id, fittings £3 19s sd, wharfage expenses £l3 5s lid, engine repair and oil £2 17s 7d, repairs £3 10s sd, tools £2 18s fid, insurances £2 11s 4d, cartage and freight £l3 14s 10d, Power Board £2 10s Od, interest and sinking fund £59 11s Bd. *More gas is recorded as used, than what was produced for the month. The reason for this is that several minor consumers’ meters are only read annually.
