RUBBISH FIRES.
FIRE BOARD'S RESOLUTION NOT ADOPTED.
At last meeting of the Foxton Fire Board a resolution was unanimously carried requesting the Borough Council to take action against a local club for having lit an unauthorised fire to which the Brigade turned out.
The matter came before the Borough Council last night when a let-' ter was received from the Foxton Fire Board enclosing the Fire Brigade report furnished in respect to the Foxton Tennis Club’s rubbish fire on March 20th and asking the Council to take legal proceedings against the Club. — The Clerk pointed out that the Secretary of the Club had made application for a permit to hold a rubbish fire on Mach 13th and had intended to convey to the Brigade the Club’s intention of holding a series of fires. The permit had been granted for March 13th. Cr. McMurray said that baulks had been prepared to prevent the fire spreading. Every care had been taken and there was no danger in connection with the fire. Cr. Adams said he was pleased the hedge had been burnt down. It had been a menace to traffic. No action should be taken in the matter.
Cr. Parkin asked whether the matter had anything to do with the Council.
Decided to notify the Tennis Club that, in if permits are not obtained for rubbish fires, proceedings will be taken.
