HEMP MARKET.
MARCH GRADING RETURNS. The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow and stripper slips for the month of March have been issued by the Department of Agricultue as follows: — The detaled patieulars of the hemp gaded are: —
Eighty-eight bales at Picton were graded fine. Sixty-five bales at Auckland, 91 at Wellington, and 90 at Foxton were rejected. The number of bales in each grade were as follows, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: Sup. nil (2), fine 88 (72), good fair 496 (1035), high fair 6119 (6007), low fair 2116 (3919), common 524 (277), rejected 246 (205), condemned nil (7), a total of 9589 bales as against 11524 graded the same period last year; a decrease of 1935 bales. The number of bales graded at each port were: —Auckland 2223, Wellington 3284, Foxton 2214, Wairoa 88, Picton 88, Blenheim 110, Dunedin 152, Port Chalmers 99, Bluff 1296, Lyttleton 35. The following shows the detailed particulars of the tow graded:
Thirty-six bales at Auckland, 22 at Foxton, 51 at Wellington and 13 at Blenheim were condemned. The following shows the number of bales in each grade, number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: — Ist grade 361 (459), 2nd grade 1928 (2012), 3rd grade 484 (562), condemned 122 (69), a total of 2895 bales as against 3102, a decrease of 207 bales. The number of bales graded at each port were Auckland 716, Foxton 522, Wellington 769, Wniroa 70, Picton 37, Blenheim 39,. Dunedin 1, Port Chalmers 51, Bluff 689, Lyttleton 1. Stripper Tow: —Six bales at Wellington were graded Ist grade, 127 at Wellington and 92 at Foxton were graded 2nd grade, 17 at Wellington and 14 at Foxton were graded 3rd grade and 3 at Wellington were condemned. A' total of 329 bales as against 144 graded last year made an increase of 185 bales. ( Stripper Slips: —Six bales at Auckland were graded Ist grade, 82 at Auckland, 7 at Wellington, 20 at Foxton, 4 at Wairoa and 112 at the Bluff were graded 2nd grade. Five at Auckland, 92 at Wellington, 10 at the Bluff were condemned. A passed for export. Twenty bales at Auckland, 16 at Wellington, and 5 at the Blue were condemned. A total of 459 as against 370 bales graded the same period last year made an increase of 89 bales.
