LEVEL CROSSING FATALITY.

Hamilton, Yesterday.

A trailway crossing fatality occurred on the Main Trunk line, about one mile south of laupiri, this afternoon. As the Thames express, bound for Auckland, approached the crossing a motor lorry driven by Mr. William Henry Cornthwaite, a single man, 22 years of age, appeared on the rails. The engine collided with the vehicle killing its driver almost instantly and smashing the light lorry to match-wood. Mr. Cornthwaite was employed by the Public Works Department and was engaged conveying camping material from Hamilton to Taupiri for electrical work. Deceased s parents reside at Palmerston North. The crossing where the accident occurred is an open one. Cornthwaite was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time of the smash. His skull was fractured and both legs were broken.
