CHALLENGING THE WORLD.

COMMUNISTS GOSPEL OF HATE,

There is an impression that or-

ganisations of the character of the N.Z. Wfelfare League which are fighting the Communist movement

constantly are engaged only in dealing with a class issue. This is far from correct. These bodies have spontaneously come into existence in all civilised countries and organisation has culminated in the formation of an “International” because of the brazen challenge issued to the whole of humanity by the Communist Party of Soviet Russia. The Third International declares itself a world political party having for its object the creation of a universal revolution by methods of duplicity, violence, subversion; and dictatorship. It thus becomes an attack upon the people and Government of all countries which have not so far succumbed to the Communist tyrannic rule. What should appeal most profoundly to the people of the British Empire in this connection is that this party does not pretend any regard for the will of majorities. It bodily denies the principles of democracy and declares the right of its minority to govei'n absolutely by the exercise of unscrupulous force. For the reason that they are being attacked the people and Government of many countries have found it necessary to-enact and sanction various laws for repression of Bol- ■ shevism. Nations whose Government ...is founded on the wifi of the people exposed by universal franchise will not leave themselves defenceless before an International bully who declares war on their Institutions and seeks to carry it to success by means that are treacherous and deadly in effect. Every self governing country of the British Empire has already taken steps on protective lines against this world menace. Britain, Canada, Aistralia, Sonth Africa, New Zealand—all have moved on much the same lines by legal means, to combat the insidious force of violence, which is seeking world revolution and openly declares its special hatred of the British Empire as an obstacle to its dastardly designs. To understand how far this world menace of Communism exceeds and differs from all ordinary politics, or issues of class relationship, it only necessary to examine the spiri- ( tual foundations of this movement. DOWN WITH CIVILISATION.

The whole of civilisation rests upon the recognition of moral law. Where moral law is denied the structure and edifice of man’s achi-

evements throughout the ages is set at naught and the whole of humanity are challenged to enter the lists in the struggle between life and death. This is' the challenge which Leninism has issued to humanity. It has affirmed that there is no 1 morality outside the will of its party. Lenin wrote thus“ Everything that is useful to the Communist Party is moral.” The deprivation of human rights, lying, corruption, murder and the most unspeakable acts are all moral by this standard. There is the staggering challenge to mankind. It is a call to the faithful of this devil’s cult of “down with Civilisation.” We would be indeed mad were we to forget the duty

of taking up this monstrous challenge. “Religion is the opium of the people” pronounced the Red leader. The Commissary of Public Education speaking at Moscow set out the spiritual standing of their Communist Party thus: — “We hate Christianity and Christians, even the best of them must be looked upon as our worst enemies. They preach the love of our neighbours and mercy, which is contrary to our principles. Christian love is an obstacle to the development of revolution. Down with the love of our neighbours; what wo want is hatred. We must learn how to hate, aud it is only then we shall conquer the world.” There, then, is the doctrine of this Communist Party in all its shameless deformity. Hatred and still more hatred is their gospel. “We must learn how to hate, and it is only then we shall conquer the world.” Such is the bestial ambition of this dictatorship of insanity. The speaker was not raving excitedly at a street corner. He was a Minister of the Soviet Government pronouncing their attitude in world polities. This affects us just as it affects all. It is the business of everyone to decide their action in face of such a portent. There should be but one answer from men and women of courage to fight this great evil until it is driven from the face of the earth. (Contributed by the, N.Z. Welfare League.)
