DRUNKEN MAN’S DEATH.

ASSAILANT NOT TRAICED,

Auckland, March 25,

After a drinking bout for two days last August Andrew Scatter became entagled in tin argument, and, being struck by a man, fell to the footpath, and died a few hours later. The adjourned inquest was held before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., this morning.

Ernest Walton, who was in company with Scatter, said that, as far as he could see. I lie man who struck deceased had no reason for doing so.

Dr. Murray said the injuries were caused by deceased striking his head on the footpath when falling. Detective-Sergeant O’Brien and Detective Nalder said they had made inquiries, as the result of which a warrant was issued on September ‘25, charging the man with manslaughter. It was found that the man had left Auckland on August 28 as a member of the crew of the Moeraki for Sydney. He had deserted the ship at Sydney on September 2, and had not been located. The Coroner returned a verdict that death was due to hemorrhage, caused by a fall, the result of the blow.
