FOXTON FIRE BOARD.
QUARTERLY MEETING
The quarterly meeting of the Fox ton Fire Board was held at the secretary’s office yesterday afternoon, presided over by Mr. F. G. Cray. There were also present: Messrs. H. Filmer, A. H. Clerke, M. E. Pcrreau, F. Woods, M. H. Walker, the secretary, (Mr. R. Rangilieuea), and the superintendent (Mr. J. H. Downes.) Leave of absence was granted Mr. J. K. Hornblow. The chairman, before commencing business, referred to the loss of the Town Hall by fire and requested the Mayor to convey his own and the Board’s sympathy to the Borough Council and citizens. CORRESPONDENCE
was read and dealt with as follows :
From the Borough Council advising the cost (about £5), of water pressure guage and installing same at lire station. —Resolved to have guage installed under supervision of local members.
From Fire Brigade recommending M. Walls for membership.—Approved. Two other applications were deferred.
From the superintendent • enclosing reports of recent fires.—The chairman said that in his opinion, the Town Hall fire justified a coronial inquiry. The secretary was instructed to request the coroner to hold an inquest. The local members action in purchasing a tyre for the engine was endorsed.
Resolved to approve the arrangements entered into with the Borough Council re apportioning cost of telephone connections with fire station and Borough Council officials residences.
Mrs G. T. Woodroofe wrote thanking the Brigade for services rendered in the recent fire which threatened her property and enclosing a donation of £1 Is Od to the Brigade’s funds. —Resolved to pay over the amount to the Brigade’s social fund.
SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT. Local members were authorised to attend to the following matters arising out of the superintendent’s report:—Filling of four mattrasses, purchase of dressing chest, alarm for deputy-superintendent’s residence, overhauling station telephone, extension of kitchen walls, cost not to exceed £5, purchase of halt cry for fire engine, to defer purchasing light dress uniforms until next financial year, to confer with local postmaster re use of telephone at Mr. Booth’s garage as an auxiliary day fire alarm. RUBBISH FIRES. The chairman spoke strongly against the action of persons lighting unauthorised fires within the borough which caused a great deal of expense to the Board in the wear and tear of equipment. He asked that particulars be given to the Borough Council of a recent rubbish fire with instructions to prosecute the offenders, which the Board agreed to. £SO REWARD. It was unanimously decided that a reward of £SO be offered conjointly by the Board and Borough Council to any person who will give such information leading to the conviction of the person or persons responsible for the destruction of the Town Hall by fire. U.F.B.A. CONFERENCE AND DEMONSTRATION.
Deputy-superintendent Lockwood submitted detailed reports of the business transacted at the annual conference and results of competitions.
The Board congratulated the local firemen on their fine showing in the competitions. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £245 Gs 7d were passed for payment.
