LEFT TO DIE.

YOUNG MAN SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES.

RESULT OF COLLISION,

Maurice Stewart, a young man, fundd unconscious in Rangitikei line, Palmerston North, on Monday night, died in the Hosbpital at six o’clock on Tuesday evening from his injuries.

The position in which deceased was found and the damage sustainedby the bicycle he was riding, point to the conclusion that he was knocked down by a passing motorist and callously left to his fate, When Mr. J. IT. Watt, of Palmerston North, discovered Stewart. He was lying almost in the centre of the road. An examination of the locality revealed the fact that deceased had been knocked or carried along about 16 yards from where the collision occurred. The bicycle was found a few yards still further on, the only damage it had sustained being to the rear mudguard, which had been torn away from the back stanchion and twisted beyond repair. Deceased was 18 years of age, and lived with his grandmother, Mrs Lynch, of Rangitikei line. He was apparently proceeding home and was within four chains of the gate when the accident occurred. He was badly bruised all over the body, apart from the severe head injuries, his general condition showing that the car must have dealt very roughly with him.
