RANGITIKEI RACING CLUB

(Own Correspondent)

Visitors to the Rangitikei Racing Club’s Annual Meeting at Bulls on Wednesday and Thursday next will notice many improvements to the course and appointments. The old picket fence surroending the birdcage and fronting the main lawn has given way to an attractive wire mesh structure supported by re-in-forced concrete posts. Tho Birdcage has been enlarged and the Judge’s box raised six feet and moved back twenty feet. The course has been widened along the back stretch, 73 feet at the six furlong post permitting 21 starters, and 75 feet at the s.furlong permitting 22 starters. The racing track is in splendid order. A fine “sole” of chewing’s fescue grass taking the “jar” out of the going, while the plough gallop is also in perfect order. Minor improvements effected including lavatories conveniences in the member’s stand, etc.

The Club’s accommodation house contains 74 beds and the stables 64 boxes.

The acceptors for the first day of the meeting number 132, and include such well-known performers as Ngata, Royal Divorce, Glenross, Yoma, Novar, Bright Day, Martulla, Rational, Fool’s Paradise, Mandane, Bonogne, Commendation.

Brigadier Bill has been withdrawn from the Carnarvon Hack Handicap, run on Wednesday.

The following reference to two local horsemen appears in an Auckland contemporary:— The Trentham trainer, Denny McCauley, had a royal time at Blenheim. He took two horses to the meeting and won five races—two with Trcsham and three with Sasham.

Paddy Mcßrearty has few equals as a rider over fences, but at Blenheim he surprised the multitude by winning four events on the flat. He handled his mounts with great skill, and it is not too much to say that he is wasting his time riding over fences. He possesses a good seatj a good pair of hands, and an unlimited amount of patience —an asset not found in too many of the pre-sent-day riders.
