STRUCK BY FIRE ENGINE.
WIDOW KILLED AT NEWMARKET. Auckland, March 19. An accident occurred at Newmarket, resulting in the death of Mrs Elizabeth James Power, of Bissett Road, Remuera, at about noon to-day. The Parnell Fire Brigade was answering a call to a fire in Remuera, and the motor engine passed through Newmarket sounding its siren loudly.
Mrs Power was crossing the road and failed to notice the engine untill it was almost upon her. The driver swerved the engine, but the old lady stepped backwards, being struck by the radiator and hurled across the street. She was terribly, injured and died almost at once.
Deceased was a widow and leaves two sons and four daughters.
