HOSPITAL TREATMENT

PRIVATE WARDS IN PUBLIC

INSTITUTIONS,

Dll. VALINTINE’S VIEW’S,

In the course of his address at the opening of the nurses’ home at Hamilton on Thursday, Dr. Valintine, Director-General of Health, made interesting references to the matter of private wards in public hospitals. He expressed the opinion that the time would probably soon come when the experienced nurses at the hospitals would be boarded out. Then the nurses’ quarters could be converted into private patients’ wards. Under such a system every patient could be attended by whatever doctor he desiied. The patients would be responsible to the hospital boards for their fees, and the doctors would make their own charges. Dr. Valentine said he felt that such an arrangement would be for the benefit of all, and would prove acceptable to the whole community.
