FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.

MEETING OF LOCAL MEMBERS.

. .At last meeting of the Board certain matters were referred to local members with power to act. A meeting of the local members (Messrs W. E. Barber, R. McMurray and J. Clirystall) together with the Harbour Master (Captain Larsen) and secretary (Mr. Rangiheuea) took place on Saturday. It was explained that the suction dredge was leaking badly and a great deal of time was taken up in keeping her afloat It was decided to immediately beach the dredge, taking advantage of the present spring tides, and to re-caulk the dredge, which work is now in progress at the river side, to the south of the wharf.

The harbour master pointed out that the fairway had silted up near’ the bend in the river, about half a mile from the wharf, due possibly to bank erosion lodgments and flax refuse anchored to sunken logs. — It was decided to use explosives to remove the obstructions.

The harbour master reported that the river at the heads was widening out and cutting into the clay hank below the jetty and immediate steps would have to be taken to prevent this us, if allowed to continue, it will endanger certain houses in the locality. It was decided to construct manuka training walls to divect the water.

The secretary was authorised to. equip Board’s ambulance stretcher in accordance with the Marine regulations. ~lt urns decided to recommend the Beard to confirm the . following transfers: Selina Stokes to W. J. Mills; A. H. Dufresne to L. D. Simmonds.

It was decided to procure a tracing of the fiaxinill sites from the Borough Council.

A proposal is to be brought down at next meeting to remove the wharf from the town site to “Rush Flat,” about a mile distant from the bar. The present wharf is seven miles from the bar.
