TOTALISATOR TICKETS.
DON’T DESTROY THEM TILL THE RACES ARE OVER.
That it is wise to follow the advice frequently printed in race books to keep your tickets to the end of the day was strikingly illustrated on two occasions at the Taranaki Trots at New Plymouth on Saturday (says the Taranaki News). After the fourth race, the Cup, the winning number was hoisted, that of the winner SA, being chalked up, followed by the numbers 3,7, and 2, being second, third and fourth respectively. As it was raining at the time the chalk was soon obliterated on the weather side with the result that, to the casual observer, it appeared that No. 3 was first and No. 7 second. A number of 5A tickets were thrown away leading to subsequent search and occasional discovery, while the payout clerks also had a busy time directing N. 3 ticket holders from the first to the second dividend window and also explaining that No. 7 was the third, horse. After the sixth race, too, when the second horse No. 2 was disqualified and No. 14 placed second, there were to be seen numbers of people searching for tickets they had thrown away. One woman was fortunate enough to go straight to the spot were she had thrown her ticket and at once regain it, but the efforts of a party to re cover the fragments of a ticket they had torn up created a lot of amusement.
